America’s court system is the best in the world, but it can be intimidating and frightening for thousands of innocent children caught in the midst of legal battles over their future. The Attorneys that are representing children in court proceedings will face different, and often more difficult, challenges than attorneys representing adults. As a GAL, Linda assists the court by making recommendations as to the best interest of children. This is often done by meeting with the parents, grandparents, teachers, doctors and most importantly the children.

Family Law Practitioners

In Oklahoma, attorneys are not permitted to claim a Specialty Area of Law. We are considered proficient in all areas of the law if we pass the required Bar Exam. While this may be true, there can be a real benefit in utilizing an attorney that has experience in a particular area of law. Family Law is one of those areas. There are many attorneys that will handle Divorce and Custody matters, that does not mean that they have the necessary experience in that area. Clients should ask their attorney how often they practice in Family Law matters. If this is an area that is only a small part of their practice the Client may want to consider utilizing another attorney that focuses their practice in this area. With a focused practice an attorney may be more current on the recent decisions by the Supreme Court regarding family law matters. They are more likely to be aware of recent changes in the law. Like in all professions, a client wants to hire the person that will do the best job for them and often times this requires diligence on the part of the client to find the right attorney.

I am proud to call myself a Family Law Attorney. This is the area of law that my practice is focused in and it requires a certain skill set that not all attorneys are able to have. The ability to understand the many facets of family law and being able to present the many options available to client is very important. Be very careful in your selection of the right attorney for your legal matter, it does make a difference.
